Today’s Bible Reading

The Lord defines the boundaries of the land that Israel is to occupy. The Lord selects tribal chiefs who are to divide the land among the tribes of Israel.

BibleGateway: Numbers 34 ESV Text: Numbers 34 Numbers 34 (Listen) Boundaries of the Land 34:1 The LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 2 “Command the people of Israel, and say to them, When you enter the land of Canaan (this is the land that shall fall to you for an inheritance, the land of Canaan as defined by… The Lord defines the boundaries of the land that Israel is to occupy. The Lord selects tribal chiefs who are to divide the land among the tribes of Israel.

The Lord compares His people to an unfaithful bride. Even so, the Lord promises to remember His covenant with the children of Israel.

In every age, false prophets prophesy what people want to hear. The exiled Judeans want to hear that they will experience no further destruction, but that they will enjoy peace. Therefore this is what false prophets preach to them. Through Ezekiel the Lord condemns false prophets.

Throughout the Old Testament the Lord gives His people many commandments. The greatest commandment is, “You shall love the Lord your God.” (Deuteronomy 6:5) Jesus will add that “the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’” (Matthew 22:39)
