Today’s Bible Reading

Before his death, David instructs his son, Solomon. David dies. Solomon oversees the deaths of his enemies.

Amos prophesies two years before a notable earthquake. Through Amos the Lord pronounces judgment on Damascus, Gaza, Tyre, Edom, and the Ammonites.

The Lord warns the people of the curse that will come with monarchy, but the people refuse to listen; they want to have a king in order to be like the surrounding nations. The Lord directs Samuel to give them their king.
