Solomon’s rule began to crumble and Ahijah the prophet told Jeroboam that he would become the next great king— if he relied on the Lord for his strength and followed the Lord’s guidance.

It’s striking that in these chapters of warning and judgment against Israel the gospel is still woven throughout. Here it’s in verses 4, 5, and 14. Always God provides promises capable of bringing back the erring and encouraging the faithful.
