5 And when Silas and Timotheus were come from Macedonia, Paul was pressed in the spirit, and testified to the Jews that Jesus was Christ. 6 And when they opposed themselves, and blasphemed, he shook his raiment, and said unto them, Your blood be upon your own heads; I am clean: from henceforth I will go unto the Gentiles.
7 And he departed thence, and entered into a certain man’s house, named Justus, one that worshipped God, whose house joined hard to the synagogue. 8 And Crispus, the chief ruler of the synagogue, believed on the Lord with all his house; and many of the Corinthians hearing believed, and were baptized. 9 Then spake the Lord to Paul in the night by a vision, Be not afraid, but speak, and hold not thy peace: 10 For I am with thee, and no man shall set on thee to hurt thee: for I have much people in this city. 11 And he continued there a year and six months, teaching the word of God among them.(KJV)
Hymn: WS 774:
A Mighty Fortress Is Our God
—
A trusty shield and weapon;
He helps us free from ev’ry need
That has us now o’er taken.
The old evil foe
Now means deadly woe;
Deep guile and great might
Are his dread arms In fight;
On earth is not his equal.
2. With might of ours can naught be done;
Soon were our loss effected.
But for us fights the Valiant One
Whom God Himself elected.
You ask, “Who is this?”
Jesus Christ it is,
The almighty Lord.
And there’s no other God;
He holds the field for ever.
3. Though devils all the world should fill,
All eager to devour us,
We tremble not, we fear no ill;
They shall not over pow’r us.
This world’s prince may still
Scowl fierce as he will,
He can harm us none.
He’s judged; the deed is done!
One little word can fell him.
4. The Word they still shall let remain,
Nor any thanks have for it;
He’s by our side upon the plain
With His good gifts and Spirit.
And do what they will
Hate, steal, hurt, or kill
Though all may be gone,
Our Victory is won;
The kingdom’s ours for ever!
