Because the land also needs rest, every seventh year is to be a Sabbath year. Every fiftieth year is to be a Year of Jubilee, on which land is returned to its original owner, Israelite slaves are freed, land is given rest, and loans are forgiven. Israelites are to deal kindly with their poor brothers.
