The Sons of Korah consider the futility of wealth and of worldliness. The Lord, in contrast, delivers His faithful people from death.

When we experience various trials and hardships in life, we do well to remember that all pain and suffering are results of sin. As human beings, each of us is to blame for sin and for the suffering and death that result from sin.

One day He will call us out of this world of evil to live forever in a perfect world where no evil will exist and where death will be no more.

Like the sons of Eli before them, the sons of Samuel are corrupt and unfit to lead Israel. The elders of Israel ask Samuel to appoint a king over Israel. The Lord warns the people of the curse that will come with monarchy, but the people refuse to listen; they want to have a king in order to be like the surrounding nations. The Lord directs Samuel to give them their king.
