Today’s Bible Reading

The Lord will destroy Damascus, but will preserve a remnant of faithful people.

Forgetfulness was the way of Israel. She did not remember nor call to mind who had blessed her in the past. The people only looked for the next “new” thing.

While our church buildings are not as extravagant as Solomon’s, there is something to be said for putting our best efforts into our houses of worship. Don’t we love the place where His glory dwells?

We see an example of Solomon’s wisdom in action when he promoted peaceful relations with Israel’s neighbors. At the same time he would build the Lord’s temple. What a fine king!

The Lord brought peace and prosperity to both king and people during Solomon’s reign. This gave the Israelites an opportunity to direct their hearts toward God and delight His mercy.
