Nobody is counted “not guilty” by following the Law. Instead, Christ was cursed for us on the cross, taking the blame for us, the lawbreakers.

10 For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them. 11 But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith. 12 And the law is not of faith: but, The man that doeth them shall live in them. 13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: 14 That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.(KJV)

1. We sing the praise of Him who died,
Of Him who died upon the cross;
The sinners’ Hope let men deride,
For this we count the world but loss.

2. Inscribed upon that cross we see
In shining letters “God is Love.”
He bears our sins upon the tree,
He brings us mercy from above.

3. The cross!–it takes our guilt away.
It holds the fainting spirit up,
It cheers with hope the gloomy day,
And sweetens every bitter cup.

4. It makes the coward spirit brave
And nerves the feeble arm for fight;
It takes all terror from the grave
And gilds the bed of death with light.

5. The balm of life, the cure of woe,
The measure and the pledge of love,
The sinners’ refuge here below,
The angels theme in heaven above.
