God was “number one” in Asa’s heart, even over his family. Wherever we find this kind of commitment, it is Spirit-worked.

     9 And in the twentieth year of Jeroboam king of Israel reigned Asa over Judah. 10 And forty and one years reigned he in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Maachah, the daughter of Abishalom. 11 And Asa did that which was right in the eyes of the LORD, as did David his father. 12 And he took away the sodomites out of the land, and removed all the idols that his fathers had made. 13 And also Maachah his mother, even her he removed from being queen, because she had made an idol in a grove; and Asa destroyed her idol, and burnt it by the brook Kidron. 14 But the high places were not removed: nevertheless Asa’s heart was perfect with the LORD all his days. 15 And he brought in the things which his father had dedicated, and the things which himself had dedicated, into the house of the LORD, silver, and gold, and vessels.(KJV)

1. My God, accept my heart this day
And make it always Thine
That I from Thee no more may stray,
No more from Thee decline.

2. Before the cross of Him who died,
Behold, I prostrate fall;
Let every sin be crucified
And Christ be All in all.

3. Anoint me with Thy Spirit’s grace
And seal me for Thine own
That I may see Thy glorious face
And worship near Thy throne.

4. May the dear blood once shed for me
My blest atonement prove
That I from first to last may be
The purchase of Thy love!

5. Let every thought and work and word
To Thee be ever given;
Then life shall be Thy service, Lord,
And death the gate of heaven.
