David wisely allowed the Lord to manage the consequences of his sin, thus resting his hope on the Lord’s mercy— a good place to rest our hope too.

David’s last words were admirable, but some of his last works were not. With sinful pride he ordered a review of his army’s strength (even Joab questioned it). In faith, however, he repented and sought the Lord.
