Jesus showed Himself to His disciples to assure them of His victory for them. He ascended into heaven to rule for their (and our) benefit forever.

The two men did not have to see Jesus in order to rejoice in Him. The Gospel Word Christ preached to them excited their hearts and put down their fears.
