Abijah’s son Asa was one of the few godly kings, a blessing from the Lord to Judah. Praise the Lord whenever we are blessed with God-fearing rulers!

     9 And in the twentieth year of Jeroboam king of Israel reigned Asa over Judah. 10 And forty and one years reigned he in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Maachah, the daughter of Abishalom. 11 And Asa did that which was right in the eyes of the LORD, as did David his father. 12 And he took away the sodomites out of the land, and removed all the idols that his fathers had made. 13 And also Maachah his mother, even her he removed from being queen, because she had made an idol in a grove; and Asa destroyed her idol, and burnt it by the brook Kidron. 14 But the high places were not removed: nevertheless Asa’s heart was perfect with the LORD all his days. 15 And he brought in the things which his father had dedicated, and the things which himself had dedicated, into the house of the LORD, silver, and gold, and vessels.(KJV)

1. God, Lord of Sabaoth, Thou who ordainest
Thunder Thy clarion and lightning Thy sword,
Show forth Thy pity on high where Thou reignest;
Give to us peace in our time, O Lord.

2. God, the omnipotent, mighty Avenger,
Watching invisible, judging unheard;
Save us in mercy, oh, save us from danger;
Give to us peace in our time, O Lord.

3. God, the All-merciful, earth hath forsaken
Thy ways all holy and slighted Thy Word;
Let not Thy wrath in its terror awaken;
Give to us pardon and peace, O Lord.

4. So shall Thy people, with thankful devotion,
Praise Him who saved them from peril and sword,
Singing in chorus, from ocean to ocean,
Peace to the nations and praise to the Lord.
